Uzbekistan to Expand Reservoir on Border With Turkmenistan
Tuyamuyun Hydrosystem, Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan plans to increase the capacity of the Tuyamuyun hydrosystem on the border with Turkmenistan as part of the Uzbekistan 2030 strategy.

According to upl.uz, the reservoir’s capacity is expected to be expanded by 1 billion cubic meters.

The project aims to improve the reliability of water supply across more than 1.2 million hectares and create a strategic reserve of fresh water for the population.

Located on the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan border, the Tuyamuyun hydrosystem is a unique engineering complex. It comprises four reservoirs — Ruslovoye, Kaparaskoye, Sultansandzhar and Ittifak — interconnected by a system of canals and locks that enable more flexible regulation of the Amu Darya River’s flow.
