Turkmenistan will modernize the Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi railway line, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Mammethan Chakyyev said during a government meeting on Friday.

According to Turkmenistan’s official media, Chakyyev reported on measures being taken by relevant agencies to further develop the country’s transport and logistics system, strengthen its transit potential, and enhance its role in international transport corridors.

The Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi railway, which holds strategic importance for Turkmenistan’s socio-economic development, links the country’s regions with the Turkmenbashi International Seaport. It is a key element in coordinating the national railway network with international transport corridors, including Lapis Lazuli, TRACECA, as well as North–South and East–West routes. In this context, comprehensive modernization of the Ashgabat Turkmenbashi line has been identified as a priority.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedow highlighted the effective progress in developing the country’s transport and logistics system and expanding its transit capacity. Emphasizing the railway’s strategic significance for Turkmenistan’s socio-economic development, the head of state approved the modernization proposal and instructed Chakyyev to organize the necessary work.

The meeting also addressed a number of other important state matters, for which corresponding decisions were adopted.
