An international team of scientists has discovered the exoplanet HD 137010 b, which could be suitable for life. The planet is located about 146 light-years from Earth, according to a study published in the Astrophysical Journal.

Researchers note that HD 137010 b is similar to Earth in size and orbit and circles a sun-like star. The star is bright enough to allow detailed study of the planet in the future.

The planet’s radius is just 6% larger than Earth’s, and it completes one orbit around its star in 355 days. Scientists estimate there is a 50% chance the planet lies within the habitable zone.

Surface temperatures on HD 137010 b could drop below minus 70 degrees Celsius, as its star is cooler and less luminous than the Sun.

If its status as a potentially habitable exoplanet is confirmed, HD 137010 b could become one of the most intriguing targets for future astronomical research.
