The ferry Barda, operated by the merchant fleet of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Co. (ASCO), returned to service after repairs and completed its first voyage, delivering 32 railcars and 12 trailers to the port of Turkmenbashi in Turkmenistan.
ASCO said Wednesday the repair work was carried out at the Zigh Ship Repair and Construction Yard. The work included hull and welding operations, pipe fitting and electrical installations, as well as upgrades to the steam boiler and watertight doors.
Mechanical and electrical components of the deck cranes were adjusted, along with equipment used to secure locomotives and railcars. The vessel’s superstructure and rail deck were cleaned and painted in two coats. Crew living quarters, service areas and sanitary facilities were also refurbished.
The ferry is 154 meters long and 17 meters wide. It has a maximum speed of 12.5 knots and a cargo capacity of up to 5,500 tons.
