Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has confirmed Astana’s readiness to participate in the development of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan transport and logistics corridor. Tokayev made the remarks Thursday in an exclusive interview with Pakistan’s newspaper The News International while answering questions on regional connectivity between Kazakhstan and Pakistan.

The president said the route is important for strengthening regional cooperation and expanding transport links toward South Asia.

Pakistan is also showing strong interest in closer cooperation in this strategically important area, Tokayev said.

He stressed that the implementation of transit and transport projects requires active and coordinated participation by all parties involved.

The Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan corridor includes the implementation of a railway project on the Herat-Turgundi section. The development of this route, with access to Pakistan’s port of Karachi, combined with the international North-South transport corridor, would provide access to ports in the Gulf countries and India.
