The consul of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan, Gadam Ilamanov, met with the Astrakhan Region’s minister for external relations, Vladimir Golovkov, to discuss preparations for the next meeting of the Turkmen–Astrakhan Joint Business Council, Lenta Novostey Astrakhani reported Tuesday.

Both sides said 2025 marked a period of stronger bilateral trade and economic ties. Golovkov said cargo turnover between the Astrakhan Region and Turkmenistan rose 38% year over year. Shipments of fish products increased fourfold, while exports of wheat flour more than tripled.

Imports to the Astrakhan Region of finished textile products made in Turkmenistan also rose fourfold. Officials attributed the growth to a business mission by representatives of Turkmen state textile enterprises held last year at the “Мой бизнес” center in Astrakhan.

The talks also covered development of the International North–South Transport Corridor, continued cooperation between ports in the Astrakhan Region and the Port of Turkmenbashi, cooperation among shipbuilding and ship repair companies, and intermunicipal ties between sister cities Astrakhan and Turkmenbashi.

Golovkov thanked Ilamanov for constructive engagement and said the sides plan to continue joint work this year.
