National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a working meeting during a visit to Germany, Turkmen state media reported Saturday.

The meeting was held in accordance with a decree signed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Feb. 13 declaring 2026 the Year of “Independent neutral Turkmenistan — the homeland of purposeful winged horses,” and was aimed at further enhancing the international profile of Turkmenistan’s Akhal-Teke horses.

During the meeting, Turkmenistan’s ambassador to Germany, Berdimyrat Rejepov, briefed participants on the current state of Turkmen-German relations. He also reported on ongoing efforts to promote Akhal-Teke horses and ensure the participation of Turkmen horses in major international competitions.

Berdimuhamedov stressed the importance of thorough preparation for and participation in the FEI World Championship 2026, scheduled for Aug. 11–23, 2026, in Aachen. He also highlighted the significance of taking part in a beauty competition for Akhal-Teke horses set to be held in September in the Netherlands, as well as equestrian events in France and the United Kingdom. Relevant officials were given instructions on these matters.

Concluding the meeting, Berdimuhamedov wished participants success in their work and returned to Turkmenistan.
