Turkmenistan to Deepen Cooperation With SCO

Turkmenistan and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization discussed prospects for deepening cooperation in trade and the economy, transport, logistics and humanitarian affairs during a meeting Thursday between Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to China Parahat Durdyyev and SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev.

The ambassador noted the SCO’s multifaceted activities and the high level of interaction with the Turkmen side, according to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in China.

Durdyyev also briefed the secretary-general on events planned by Turkmenistan for 2026 and preparations for celebrating the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence.

Yermekbayev expressed appreciation for the invitation to take part in a forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, the International Day of Neutrality and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality. In this context, he recalled a meeting with National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Earlier, Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said the country is ready for practical dialogue on using the Turkmenbashi International Seaport in the interests of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
