A school focused on preparing students for admission to leading U.S. universities is set to open in the city of Arkadag, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in an interview with Al Arabiya during a visit to the United States.

The school will follow modern educational methods and standards, with in-depth instruction in English. Special emphasis will be placed on preparing students to continue their education at prestigious U.S. universities, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Columbia University.

According to Turkmenistan’s state media, Berdimuhamedov said there is strong interest in learning English in Turkmenistan, noting that the language is now taught in all general education schools nationwide. Instruction is conducted entirely in English at four higher education institutions.

Touching on cultural cooperation, Berdimuhamedov highlighted established ties with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and said such cooperation should be expanded. He described Turkmenistan as a country with an ancient and rich history and culture, while noting growing interest in American cinema, literature and music. In recent years, various educational programs have been implemented, including visits by professors, lectures and master classes.

Berdimuhamedov also said that over many years, hundreds of economic projects involving U.S. companies have been implemented and continue to be carried out in Turkmenistan, with total investment estimated at about $45 billion.
