Turkmenistan Seeks to Establish Direct Ties With Florida

Turkmenistan aims to establish direct ties with the U.S. state of Florida, bringing together strengths and opportunities that can be used in the common interest, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in an interview with Al Arabiya during a visit to the United States, Turkmenistan’s state media reported Saturday.

The aim, he said, is to reach concrete agreements in business cooperation, investment and trade. Berdimuhamedov also expressed interest in studying Florida’s experience in the construction of sports facilities and the organization of sporting activities more broadly.

He noted that Turkmenistan is the homeland of the world-famous Akhal-Teke horses and that special attention is being paid to the development of horse breeding in the country. Equestrian sports, he added, are also widely developed and popular in Florida, making it possible to combine mutual experience and expertise in this field.

During the visit to the United States, Berdimuhamedov also met with John Riese, president of the Nicklaus Companies, and members of the company’s management. The sides noted the positive experience accumulated in cooperation with Nicklaus Companies.

Plans were also announced to build modern golf courses in the city of Arkadag and in the Avaza national tourist zone.
