Turkmenistan and EBRD Discuss Expanding Investment Partnership
Meeting Between Rashid Meredov and Odile Renaud-Basso, Feb. 25, 2026, London, United Kingdom

Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development President Odile Renaud-Basso on Feb. 25, 2026. The sides discussed prospects for expanding financial and investment cooperation and implementing joint projects.

The talks noted that, under its economic development strategy, Turkmenistan places particular emphasis on strengthening international partnerships, including deeper cooperation with leading financial institutions and banking structures. The parties highlighted the effective and sustainable nature of the country’s long-standing cooperation with the EBRD.

Renaud-Basso confirmed the EBRD’s interest in further expanding mutually beneficial engagement and participating in priority areas of cooperation with Turkmenistan.

Special attention was given to projects aimed at developing the international East–West transport corridor. The Turkmen side said it was ready to consider specific EBRD proposals for participation in initiatives in this area.

The sides also identified expanding cooperation in the energy sector as a priority, noting significant opportunities for EBRD involvement in sustainable energy projects.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence in the continued, steady development of bilateral cooperation.

The EBRD began operations in Turkmenistan in 1992. Since then, the bank has implemented more than 80 projects in the country, most of them focused on supporting export-oriented companies.
