Turkmenistan has been included among the countries for which the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is considering providing technical assistance under the project “Next-Generation Border Crossing Development for CAREC Countries.”
The project also involves Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The total volume of technical assistance is estimated at $1 million and is expected to be financed through the ADB Technical Assistance Special Fund, the bank said Tuesday.
The assistance aims to support the bank and countries in the region in modernizing border crossing points using innovative and environmentally sustainable solutions. The Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program will serve as a platform for preparing projects through the BUILD mechanism, which finances a series of small projects along transport corridors.
The technical assistance includes preparing project documentation for three priority border crossing points, developing a new methodology for implementing projects through BUILD, and training specialists from participating countries in the operation and management of border crossings.
Turkmenistan will also participate in a regional Asian Development Bank project aimed at strengthening cross-border cooperation in water resources and improving climate resilience in water management.
