President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung sent a letter of appreciation to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov for assistance in evacuating South Korean nationals from Iran. The presidential office Cheong Wa Dae reported Monday, according to The Korea Times.
The letter said that, with the cooperation of the Turkmen side, 25 citizens of South Korea who had been in Iran, along with four Iranian family members of the Koreans, were able to safely cross the border last week and arrive in Turkmenistan.
Lee noted that Turkmenistan’s support during the evacuation confirmed the high level of friendship and trust between the two countries.
More than 200 people from 16 countries, including states of Central Asia, China, Russia, the United States, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, also entered Turkmenistan from neighboring Iran.
