Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, met Tuesday in Brussels with Patrick Child, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment, to discuss prospects for cooperation in the environmental sector, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium reported.

The sides discussed expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in environmental protection and sustainable natural resource management. They noted that elevating EU–Central Asia engagement to a strategic level creates additional opportunities to intensify dialogue.

Particular attention was paid to water resources, which are becoming a key factor in the region’s sustainable development.

The sides also discussed the need to further institutionalize cooperation, including the development of framework mechanisms and road maps.

Following the talks, both sides confirmed their mutual interest in advancing partnership and expanding practical dialogue in environmental protection and sustainable development.

On the same day in Brussels, Ambassador Palvanov also met with Member of the European Parliament Munir Satouri, chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI).
