Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan discussed infrastructure modernization through dredging at the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi and increasing cargo volumes through the port.
The issue was addressed during a meeting between Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Nokerguly Atagulyyev and Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Rovshan Rustamov on Wednesday in Baku, according to Azerbaijan Railways.
The Turkmen delegation was presented with information on the development of the Port of Baku, including projects implemented following its integration with Azerbaijan’s railway system. The strategic role of the port in supporting multimodal transport along the Middle Corridor was highlighted.
Last year, the port reached a record performance, surpassing 100,000 TEU in cargo handling, driven by large-scale investments in Azerbaijan’s transport infrastructure.
The sides emphasized the importance of introducing digital data exchange to improve coordination between the two countries’ railway systems and seaports.
The meeting also explored opportunities to expand cooperation in multimodal transport within the framework of the Middle Corridor and the Eurasian transport route, as well as increasing cargo flows along the East–West–East corridor.
