National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a visit to Austria on Saturday, held a meeting with Federal President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen. During the talks, Berdimuhamedov invited the President of the Republic of Austria to visit Ashgabat at a convenient time.
According to official Turkmen media, Alexander Van der Bellen expressed gratitude for the invitation and noted with satisfaction that Austro-Turkmen relations are currently being enriched with new content and are steadily developing for the benefit of both friendly nations.
During the substantive exchange of views, the National Leader of the Turkmen people emphasized that the visit is seen as an important step that could provide additional momentum to the development of bilateral cooperation in political, economic and cultural-humanitarian areas.
Berdimuhamedov also expressed appreciation to the Republic of Austria for its consistent support of Turkmenistan’s international initiatives, particularly its co-sponsorship of numerous United Nations General Assembly resolutions.
Discussing the current state of trade and economic relations, the National Leader stressed the need to make fuller use of existing potential to increase trade turnover. The importance of the joint Turkmen-Austrian group was highlighted, with the next meeting proposed to be held in June this year in Ashgabat.
At the end of the meeting, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Alexander Van der Bellen exchanged best wishes.
