National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum, proposing a number of measures aimed at stabilizing energy markets and strengthening international cooperation, official Turkmen media reported Saturday.

Among the proposals are the development of a Global Energy Security Strategy, the creation of an Energy Code under the auspices of the United Nations, and the preparation of a universal international legal framework for energy cooperation. Turkmenistan also called for ensuring free, stable and non-discriminatory access to energy.

Berdimuhamedov also proposed launching a 10-year global program for the transition to hydrogen energy with the participation of international partners.
The chairman of the Halk Maslahaty reaffirmed the country’s readiness to expand projects in renewable energy, including solar and wind power.

The national leader added that a U.N. Regional Center for Climate Technologies in Central Asia will begin operations in Ashgabat in the near future with government support.

During the visit to Vienna, Berdimuhamedov also held meetings with the president of Austria, the director-general of UNIDO, the deputy secretary-general of the United Nations and the director-general of the IAEA.
