Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held a phone call on May 4, 2026, exchanging views on regional security and emphasizing the importance of preventive diplomacy and political solutions to avoid conflicts, according to Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry.
The sides also reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and discussed international issues of mutual interest.
They addressed Caspian-related matters, noting that the Caspian Sea should remain a zone of peace, cooperation and good-neighborly relations, and underscored the need to strengthen multilateral cooperation on environmental issues in the region.
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to further developing diplomatic dialogue and agreed to maintain regular contacts between their foreign ministries.
The phone call was held at the initiative of the Iranian side.
