The Republic of Korea is preparing extensively for the first visit of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, scheduled for September 2026. The announcement was made by South Korean Ambassador to Turkmenistan Lee Won-jae in an exclusive interview with nCa published on Tuesday.

According to the ambassador, the upcoming trip will mark President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s first visit to the Republic of Korea. The visit is expected to give fresh momentum to bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

Lee Won-jae noted that the two sides aim not only to deepen their existing cooperation in energy plant construction and shipbuilding, but also to expand partnership into new areas, including railway transport, telecommunications, and water resources.

The diplomat also stated that the President of Turkmenistan’s visit will coincide with the inaugural “Central Asia–Korea” summit. According to Lee Won-jae, the meeting will become the first-ever high-level platform between the Republic of Korea and the countries of Central Asia and will focus on institutionalizing cooperation with the region. The summit agenda is expected to cover a broad range of issues, including security, economy, energy, environmental cooperation, infrastructure, and humanitarian exchanges.
