Pilgrims from Turkmenistan have departed for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj pilgrimage.
Before their departure, they visited the Hazreti Omar Mosque in Ashgabat, according to the Friday news program Watan habarlary.
Citizens representing all regions of the country and the capital will join millions of believers from around the world to perform the pilgrimage to the Kaaba and other religious rites in Mecca and Medina during the days of Eid al-Adha.
At the beginning of May, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed an order to send 289 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia. The state airline Türkmenhowaýollary was instructed to organize special flights to transport them at its own expense.
The Hajj is performed during the Eid al-Adha period. Turkmenistan annually organizes pilgrimages for citizens to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
