Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has arrived in Turkmenistan on an official visit, according to Turkmen state media.
Officials welcomed the prime minister at Ashgabat International Airport, which was decorated with the national flags of Turkmenistan and Malaysia. An honour guard was lined up along the carpeted route from the aircraft. According to the report, the prime minister received a warm welcome in keeping with Turkmen traditions of hospitality.
Relations between Turkmenistan and Malaysia continue to develop on the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. It also noted that the official visit of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Malaysia in 2024 marked the beginning of a new stage in bilateral cooperation.
The oil and gas sector remains one of the strategic pillars of economic cooperation between the two countries. The long-standing and successful operations of Malaysian energy company PETRONAS in Turkmenistan were cited as a clear example of a reliable and enduring investment partnership.
According to Turkmen state media, Turkmenistan and Malaysia are seeking to broaden cooperation beyond the fuel and energy sector. The two sides view transport and logistics, high technology and agriculture as promising areas for future partnership.
