National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a sadaqah on Friday in memory of those who have passed away at the Seyit Jemaleddin Mosque in Ak Bugday district of Ahal velayat, according to Turkmen state media.

The sadaqah honored past generations, the successful implementation of ongoing national initiatives and the achievement of goals aimed at ensuring the well-being and prosperity of the population.

During his remarks, Berdimuhamedov highlighted the close ties between Turkmen traditions and Islam.

“For this reason, the Turkmen people begin every undertaking with the words ‘Bismillah,’ invoking the name of Allah. We give sadaqah and offer prayers for the success of good deeds. We also pay great attention to maintaining cemeteries across the country. Today, we took part in a community clean-up effort at the Gurban Ogly Welmyrat cemetery in the village of Magtymguly in Ak Bugday district of Ahal velayat,” he said.

The chairman of the Halk Maslahaty described remembrance of the deceased as a virtuous act and said Turkmen society places great value on traditions passed down through generations. He cited a Turkmen proverb linking respect for the deceased with honor and respect for the living with prosperity.

Participants were served a meal after the ceremonial blessing. Following the meal, the Mufti of Turkmenistan recited verses from the Quran and offered prayers for the country's continued development, for the acceptance of the sadaqah and memorial prayers, and for the health and long life of Hero-Arkadag and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Berdimuhamedov thanked those attending the ceremony and expressed hope that the prayers and Quranic recitations would be accepted by Almighty God. He later joined the congregation for evening prayers at the Seyit Jemaleddin Mosque.
