Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Batyr Annayev reported on efforts to further strengthen the material and technical base of the railway transport sector during a regular online government meeting on Saturday, according to Turkmen state media.
Annayev stated that the government is implementing measures to increase the transport and transit capacity of the railway network, meet growing demand for petroleum product transportation and expand freight traffic across the rail system. He presented a related proposal to the Head of state.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan continues to develop its railway sector and improve transport infrastructure. He approved the proposal to increase railway capacity and expand freight operations and instructed the deputy prime minister to carry out a number of tasks in this area.
The meeting also reviewed several other issues of national importance and the relevant decisions were adopted.
Earlier, it was reported that on June 10, Turkmenistan received three-section freight diesel locomotives manufactured by CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd. for the first time. The locomotives were purchased to increase freight transportation volumes. The new locomotives are capable of hauling up to 6,300 tonnes of cargo.
