Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov visited the city of Fizuli during the second day of his state visit to Azerbaijan, reviewed progress on the construction of a mosque being built as a humanitarian gift from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev welcomed Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in Fizuli. The two leaders jointly visited the mosque construction site.

The mosque construction began in October 2025 during the 12th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States in Gabala, Azerbaijan with the participation of National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The project is financed by the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship, construction work is being carried out by the private enterprise Aga-Gurluşyk.

The mosque complex will include a prayer hall with a capacity of 500 worshippers, a 250-seat hall for sadaqa meals and facilities for ablution. According to the report, the project is aimed at strengthening Turkmen-Azerbaijani friendship and brotherhood and expanding cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

After reviewing the construction work, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proceeded to the city of Shusha.
