Turkmenistan and EBRD Expand Cooperation Energy and Banking Sectors

Turkmenistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) prepared draft documents aimed at further developing cooperation in the fuel and energy, transport, environmental, financial and banking sectors, Turkmen state media reported on Friday.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on ongoing work to expand cooperation with the EBRD during a Cabinet of Ministers online meeting.

According to the report, a working meeting was held ahead of the planned visit of the bank’s leadership to Turkmenistan next month. The meeting involved heads of relevant ministries and sectoral agencies, as well as the head of the EBRD office in Turkmenistan. Participants discussed the preparation of draft agreements expected to be signed during the visit.

After the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan attaches special importance to strengthening relations with reputable financial institutions and international banks. He noted that the country has successfully cooperated with the EBRD for many years and instructed the Deputy prime minister and Foreign minister to continue efforts to develop productive cooperation.

The meeting also considered several other issues of national importance and adopted corresponding decisions.
