Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan and National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in a mourning ceremony during his visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran to honor the memory of the late Leader of the country Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Turkmenistan's official media reported on Friday.
The ceremony was held at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla Mosque in Tehran. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was welcomed at the entrance by First Vice President of Iran Mohammad Reza Aref and other officials. An official melody was performed by the Honor Guard, after which verses from the Holy Quran were recited.
Paying tribute to the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov offered prayers for the repose of his soul. He also conveyed sincere condolences and words of support to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior officials on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, personally and on behalf of the Turkmen people.
During the ceremony, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan left a message in the book of condolences.
As part of the visit, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also held meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
