The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held meetings with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian and Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf during his visit to Iran, according to Turkmenistan’s official media on Friday.

During talks between Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Masoud Pezeshkian, the sides discussed the current state of Turkmen-Iranian relations and issues related to the further development of cooperation. The parties noted the high level of bilateral ties based on the principles of good-neighborliness, mutual respect and equal partnership.

Particular attention was paid to prospects for cooperation in trade and economic affairs, fuel and energy, transport and communications, agriculture and cultural and humanitarian fields. The important role of a trust-based dialogue at the highest level in strengthening interstate cooperation was emphasized.

As part of the visit, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan also met with Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. The sides described interparliamentary cooperation as one of the important areas of interstate relations, noting the need to intensify the work of parliamentary friendship groups, continue the exchange of legislative experience and develop cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

During the visit, the National Leader of the Turkmen people also took part in a mourning ceremony at the Mosalla Imam Khomeini Mosque in Tehran, paid tribute to the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and left a message in the book of condolences.
