Turkmenistan Presents Caspian Sea Environmental Initiatives in Seoul

Turkmenistan presented its environmental initiatives for the conservation of the Caspian Sea at the fifth meeting of the Sustainable Ocean Initiative Global Dialogue, held in Seoul from June 30 to July 3, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Korea reported on Monday.

The Turkmen delegation was led by Myrat Atajanov, Director of the Caspian Institute of Turkmenistan, Representative of Turkmenistan on Caspian Sea Affairs and the country's Representative of Turkmenistan to the Intergovernmental Commission on the conservation and rational use of aquatic biological resources and management of shared stocks of the Caspian Sea.

During the forum, the delegation presented Turkmenistan's efforts aimed at the conservation and sustainable development of the Caspian Sea. Particular attention was given to the importance of regional cooperation in protecting the Caspian's unique marine ecosystem, the sustainable use of aquatic biological resources and the implementation of international environmental commitments.

During the visit to the Republic of Korea, the Turkmen delegation also held bilateral meetings with Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea Mr. Seo Jeongho, Chief of Staff and Director of Strategy, Sustainable Finance and Global Initiatives of the Global Green Growth Institute “GGGI” Mr. Ferruccio Santetti and and the President of Korea Maritime and Ocean University Dr. Ryoo Dong Keun.

The meetings included an exchange of views on strengthening cooperation related to the Caspian Sea, as well as broader maritime collaboration. Discussions covered specialist training, maritime policy and governance, the sustainable use of marine and coastal resources, the development of the blue economy, and the Republic of Korea's experience in maritime governance, coastal zone management, marine research, and sustainable ocean development.
