Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met on Thursday U.S. Senator from Montana, a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Steve Daines, who is visiting the country, Turkmen state media reported.
The two sides discussed the current state and future prospects of political, diplomatic, trade, economic, and cultural cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States. National Leader of the Turkmen People noted Turkmenistan attaches great importance to strengthening relations with the United States based on mutual respect, trust and understanding.
Senator Daines conveyed greetings and best wishes from U.S. President Donald Trump. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov thanked him for the message, extended his best wishes to Trump in return and congratulated the American people on the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.
Parties norted trade and economic cooperation remains a key pillar of bilateral ties. They highlighted the role of the Turkmenistan–U.S. Business Council in promoting cooperation and highlighted Boeing, General Electric, John Deere and Case New Holland have implemented projects in Turkmenistan for many years.
Energy and transport infrastructure were identified as promising areas for future cooperation. Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty stressedTurkmenistan's strategic geographic location and abundant natural resources provide opportunities for major international projects. He welcomed U.S. support for the development of East–West and North–South transit corridors and for the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) natural gas pipeline, saying the project would contribute to regional economic stability, cooperation and prosperity.
The meeting also explored opportunities to expand cooperation in education, science and culture. Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty reaffirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to further develop long-term, multidimensional cooperation with the United States.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides wished each other success and extended wishes for peace and prosperity to the peoples of both countries.
