Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have launched their first pilot shipment under the e-TIR system, Azerbaijan's International Road Carriers Association (ABADA) Secretary General Kenan Gurbanov told reporters, Trend news agency reported.
As part of the pilot project, cargo was transported from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan across the Caspian Sea. In the next stage, it will be shipped to Turkmenistan to complete the first transport operation using the e-TIR system.
"We hope no problems will arise. Even if they do, this pilot project is of great importance for identifying and resolving them," Gurbanov said.
He said the e-TIR system replaces the paper TIR Carnet and helps speed up procedures for international freight transport. The next stage of the project предусматривает the introduction of the electronic e-CMR consignment note.
