Preparations for the World Equestrian Championship and Beauty for Akhal-Teke Horses, scheduled for September 4-6, 2026, in the Dutch province of Limburg, topped the agenda during a meeting in The Hague between Turkmen Ambassador to the Netherlands Sapar Palvanov and Dutch Deputy Foreign Minister and Director-General for Political Affairs Joost Flamand, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium reported on Tuesday.
The sides discussed organizational issues related to the upcoming championship, which will be the first international competition of its scale for Akhal-Teke horses to be held outside Turkmenistan. The event is expected to bring together some of the finest representatives of this unique breed from around the world
The officials also focused on preparations for high-level events that will take place alongside the championship. In addition, they reviewed prospects for expanding political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Netherlands.
The diplomats discussed the possibility of holding a Turkmen-Dutch business forum in The Hague with the participation of government officials, business representatives and leading companies from both countries. They said such a platform would help expand trade and economic cooperation, establish direct business contacts and support joint projects in Turkmenistan using advanced Dutch technologies.
The sides also exchanged views on prospects for cooperation in water resources management, the introduction of water-saving technologies, climate change adaptation and the development of modern water infrastructure.
During the visit, Palvanov also met with Bob Aal, head of the High-Level Events Unit at the Protocol Department of the Dutch Foreign Ministry, and protocol officials. The sides discussed organizational and technical aspects of preparing high-level delegation visits and agreed to continue close coordination to ensure the successful staging of the championship and the further development of bilateral cooperation.
