The United Nations General Assembly has adopted by consensus a resolution introduced by Turkmenistan proclaiming 2028 the International Year of International Law, Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry reported.
The resolution titled International Year of International Law 2028, was adopted on July 24 during the 106th plenary meeting of the 80th session of the U.N. General Assembly. It was co-sponsored by 78 countries.
Presenting the draft resolution, the Turkmen delegation said that amid profound global changes, strengthening respect for international law is essential to maintaining international peace and security, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and advancing effective multilateral cooperation.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the resolution's adoption reflects the international community's recognition of Turkmenistan's consistent efforts to promote the rule of international law and strengthen a culture of peace, trust and constructive multilateral engagement within the United Nations.
