President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated participants of the scientific and practical conference “Protection of the Caspian Sea Ecosystem: Regional Cooperation and Sustainable Development” on Caspian Sea Day, Turkmen state media reported on Wednesday.
In his congratulatory message, the President said the Caspian Sea has gained broad international recognition as a sea of peace, friendship and goodwill, describing it as an invaluable asset with unique natural features, rich biodiversity, and economic and geopolitical importance.
Turkmen President emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to developing international partnerships to improve the environmental condition of the Caspian Sea. He recalled that the first Caspian Environmental Forum, held in 2012 at the Avaza National Tourist Zone, reflected the country’s initiatives and efforts in this area.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the first Caspian Economic Forum, held on Turkmenistan’s initiative August 12, 2019, at the Avaza National Tourist Zone, opened new opportunities for developing trade and economic ties among the Caspian littoral states. He described the Sixth Caspian Summit, held in Ashgabat on June 29, 2022, as a significant event in developing cooperation among the littoral states, saying it outlined areas for further collaboration.
Head of the state said protecting the Caspian Sea’s unique ecosystem, biodiversity and rare flora and fauna is among Turkmenistan’s priorities. In this regard, he described the Caspian Environmental Initiative promoted by the country as an important step toward protecting the marine ecosystem, pooling efforts and preserving the unique natural asset for future generations.
The President highlighted the scientific and practical conference dedicated to Caspian Sea Day is important for protecting and scientifically studying the sea’s natural resources, ensuring a favorable environmental environment and further developing friendly relations among the Caspian littoral states. He wished the participants good health and success in their work.
