National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was informed during his working visit to Arkadag city that the Arkadag football club had qualified for the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2, Turkmen state media reported Thursday.
Arkadag defeated India’s Goa 3-0 to advance to the group stage of the 2026-27 AFC Champions League 2. The team, coached by Vladimir Bayramov, will represent Turkmenistan in the group stage of Asia’s second-tier club competition for the second consecutive year. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted during the visit that the state is creating all necessary conditions to develop football in Turkmenistan and raise Turkmenistan’s sports to the international level. He expressed confidence that Arkadag would achieve further victories.
During his working visit to Arkadag city, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also reviewed designs for facilities planned as part of the city’s second construction phase and held a working meeting. He reviewed plans for a new specialized foreign-language school, a 320-seat kindergarten and a sports complex and recommended equipping the new school’s classrooms, including language laboratories, in line with international standards and incorporating advanced global practices.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed the importance of accelerating construction during the city’s second phase while ensuring that facilities are completed to a high standard and put into operation on schedule. He said the new school should play an important role in helping young people learn foreign languages and gain deepen their engagement with global science.
During the visit, National Leader of the Turkmen people was also informed that a new mosque in Arkadag with a capacity of 30,000 people had been named the “Arkadagyň Ruhy Metjidi” with the decision formally registered. A proposal to give the madrassa being built next to the mosque the status of a higher educational institution was also supported by Berdimuhamedov.
At the end of his visit, National Leader of the Turkmen people went to the Ruhyyet Palace in Arkadag and reviewed preparations and facilities for hosting international events in the city. Officials noted that Arkadag is strengthening its position as a venue for international forums and conferences.
