Turkmen President Discusses Bilateral Cooperation With Tajik Foreign Minister

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Thursday received Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, during the minister's visit to Turkmenistan. The two sides discussed the current state of Turkmen-Tajik strategic cooperation and ways to further develop bilateral ties, according to Turkmen state media.

Muhriddin thanked Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the opportunity to meet and noted Tajikistan highly values its traditionally friendly relations with Turkmenistan. He conveyed Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s warm greetings to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and said developing cooperation with Turkmenistan is one of Tajikistan’s foreign policy priorities.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov conveyed his best wishes to the Tajik president and expressed hope for the success of the upcoming consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. He said the meetings would help expand priority areas of strategic cooperation based on historical ties, friendship and mutual respect.

The sides also emphasized the importance of cooperation within international and regional organizations. They noted that, as part of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States this year, a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State is planned to be held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone, along with a consultative meeting of the heads of state of Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan.

The meeting also focused on trade and economic cooperation. The sides highlighted the role of the joint intergovernmental commission and noted opportunities to expand cooperation in energy, transport and agriculture. They also emphasized that the common historical, cultural and spiritual values of the two peoples remain an important part of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere.

The same day, political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The sides discussed ways to further strengthen political and diplomatic relations and reaffirmed their readiness to continue an effective dialogue. Following the consultations, the two ministries signed a Program of Cooperation for 2027-2028.
