Turkmen President Sends Condolences to Xi Jinping Over Natural Disaster

Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent a letter of condolences to Chinese President Xi Jinping over a natural disaster in the Tibet Autonomous Region that resulted in tragic consequences, Turkmen state media reported Thursday.

The President expressed, on behalf of the people and government of Turkmenistan, as well as on his own behalf, his heartfelt condolences and words of support to the relatives and loved ones of those who died in the disaster.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov also conveyed his wishes for a speedy recovery to those affected by the natural disaster.

A natural disaster occurred Aug. 26 in Tibet, near the border between China and Nepal. The movement of glaciers and mountain rocks caused floods and landslides, damaging the Gyirong border area. Search and rescue operations are still underway in the affected area.
