Turkmen Athletes Participate in VI World Nomad Games

Athletes from Turkmenistan are participating in the VI World Nomad Games, which are being held in Kyrgyzstan from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6. Turkmen athletes are competing in national wrestling and other sports, Turkmen state media reported.

The opening ceremony of the Games was held Aug. 31 at Bishkek Arena stadium in Bishkek. Athletes from more than 100 countries are participating in the international sports and cultural event. The program includes 43 sports, including national wrestling, horse racing, archery, intellectual games and other traditional disciplines.

On the first day of competition, Turkmen athletes won two medals. Annagurban Allaberdiyev won the national wrestling competition, finishing ahead of competitors from 31 countries. Kemal Kemalov won a bronze medal in kurash, where athletes from 21 countries competed.

Winners of the competitions in these disciplines received cash prizes of 100,000 Kyrgyz soms, while third-place finishers received 50,000 soms.

The main competitions are being held in Cholpon-Ata on Lake Issyk-Kul. As part of the Games, an ethnovillage with more than 300 yurts has also been set up in the Kyrchyn Gorge, showcasing the culture, decorative and applied arts, and traditions of the nomadic way of life.
