Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, on behalf of the people and government of Turkmenistan and in his own name, sent his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to His Majesty King Haakon VIII on his accession to the Norwegian throne, Turkmen state media reported Wednesday.
Head of the state wished Haakon VIII good health, happiness and prosperity, and peace, development and prosperity to the people of Norway.
Haakon VIII ascended the Norwegian throne on Aug. 28, 2026, following the death of his father, King Harald V. On the same day, the new monarch addressed an extraordinary meeting of the Council of State, announcing that he was assuming the powers of the king in accordance with the country's Constitution and would take the name Haakon VIII.
According to the Norwegian Parliament's official press service, Haakon VIII took the constitutional oath before the Storting, Norway's parliament, on Sept. 1, 2026.
