Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen on Thursday in The Hague. The sides discussed the current state and prospects of Turkmen-Dutch relations, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry reported.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the consistent development of bilateral relations and voiced interest in further expanding cooperation in political and diplomatic, trade and economic, and cultural and humanitarian areas.
The foreign ministers also exchanged views on key issues on the regional and international agenda. The Turkmen side reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of Permanent Neutrality, the U.N. Charter and the peaceful settlement of international issues through political and diplomatic means.
The sides discussed trade and economic cooperation and considered opportunities to strengthen business ties in transport and logistics, port infrastructure development, agriculture and modern agricultural production technologies, energy, high technologies and industrial cooperation. They also highlighted their interest in expanding direct contacts between business communities of the two countries.
The meeting also focused on cooperation in education and the training of diplomatic personnel, including Turkmenistan’s long-standing cooperation with the Netherlands’ Clingendael Institute of International Relations.
The agenda also included the upcoming Akhal-Teke horse beauty competition and international equestrian sports events in the Netherlands. The Dutch side welcomed the organization in the country of such a large-scale event dedicated to Akhal-Teke horses and the equestrian traditions of the Turkmen people.
At the end of the talks, the sides reaffirmed their readiness to continue regular dialogue and joint work to further strengthen multifaceted relations between Turkmenistan and the Netherlands.
