Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with Christopher Jonker, Adviser to the Prime Minister of the Netherlands on foreign policy and defense issues, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry reported.
The meeting discussed ways to further strengthen Turkmen-Dutch relations, including intensifying political ties and expanding dialogue within the framework of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
The sides also exchanged views on current international and regional issues. The Turkmen side outlined approaches stemming from Turkmenistan’s status of permanent neutrality and emphasized the particular importance of preventive diplomacy, political dialogue and peaceful means in resolving international issues.
Particular attention was paid to opportunities for economic cooperation. The sides discussed ways to encourage greater participation by Dutch businesses in projects being implemented in Turkmenistan and noted prospects for cooperation in shipbuilding and maritime infrastructure development, health care, innovative technologies and reducing methane emissions.
The Turkmen side expressed readiness to assist in organizing visits by executives of leading Dutch companies to Turkmenistan and arranging meetings with representatives of relevant government agencies and business circles.
The meeting also discussed cultural and humanitarian cooperation. In this regard, the sides noted that a world championship in equestrian sports and beauty contests is being held in the Limburg region. They emphasized that the two countries’ shared interest in equestrian traditions contributes to the development of cultural and public relations.
Following the meeting, the sides expressed interest in continuing the dialogue and work to implement the initiatives discussed.
