Turkmenistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Serdar Muhammetdurdyyev met with Denis Trefilov, Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States of the Commonwealth of Independent States, on Sept. 7 at the Avaza National Tourist Zone. Following the meeting, a ceremony was held Sept. 8 at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan to sign a Protocol on the Coordination of Preparation Matters for the Meetings of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which will be held on 7 and 9 October 2026 in the National Tourist Zone “Avaza” was held at the MFA of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on current issues of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the CIS. Particular attention was paid to preparations for events planned for October at the Avaza National Tourist Zone as part of Turkmenistan’s 2026 chairmanship of the CIS, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reported.

The sides discussed organizational issues related to preparations for the upcoming events and areas of cooperation. They also exchanged views on other current issues on the agenda of mutual interest.
The document is aimed at ensuring coordinated organizational and substantive preparations for the upcoming meetings, which will be held as part of Turkmenistan’s 2026 chairmanship of the CIS.
