Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Luc Pierre Devigne, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union to Turkmenistan. During the meeting, the Ambassador presented his credentials to the Head of the state, Turkmen state media reported Wednesday.
The Ambassador expressed his sincere gratitude to the President for receiving him and said it was a great honor for him to represent the European Union in Turkmenistan. He also conveyed warm greetings from European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The Head of state conveyed his best wishes to the EU leaders, congratulated the Ambassador on his new diplomatic post and wished him success in his responsible work to further develop relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
“During the meeting, it was noted that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to its relations with the European Union. The sides expressed their views on continuing political dialogue and intensifying exchanges on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
Trade and economic cooperation was also identified as one of the important areas for developing relations. The Head of state emphasized the opportunities to increase trade turnover, expand business ties with European companies and implement new investment projects.
The importance of expanding cooperation in energy, transport and logistics, industry, agriculture, digital technologies and environmental protection was also noted. The prospects for developing routes to European markets through the Caspian Sea and the potential of the Trans-Caspian transport corridor, as well as cooperation in renewable energy sources and the transition to a “green” economy, were also discussed.
At the end of the meeting, the EU ambassador once again expressed his gratitude to the Head of state for receiving him and assured him that he would make every effort to further expand the traditional friendly relations between Turkmenistan and the EU.
