The 111th meeting of the CIS Economic Council was held in Ashgabat, where a wide range of issues related to economic cooperation among the Commonwealth of Independent States were discussed, the Press Service of the CIS Executive Committee reported Friday.
Hojamyrat Geldimyradov, chairman of the CIS Economic Council and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, opened and chaired the meeting. Heads of delegations from CIS member states and CIS Secretary-General Sergei Lebedev attended the meeting. In a restricted session, the heads of delegations exchanged views on current issues of economic cooperation within the CIS, as well as on documents submitted to the Council.
During the meeting, the Economic Council approved a Plan of Measures to implement the Strategy for Ensuring Transport Security in the territories of CIS member states during international transportation for 2026–2030. The document provides for further measures to implement agreed approaches in the field of transport security.
The Council also considered a draft concept for developing cooperation among CIS member states in the production of advanced materials for high-tech industries and a plan of measures for its implementation. The concept provides for the development of interstate scientific, technical and industrial cooperation, technology transfer, and the training of specialists in materials science and materials technologies.
In addition, the Council considered a draft Comprehensive Plan of Measures for 2026–2030 to implement the Interstate Program for Innovation Cooperation among CIS member states through 2030. The plan includes specific initiatives, measures and projects, with responsible parties and implementation deadlines specified.
The meeting also covered issues related to standardization, metrology and certification, the agro-industrial complex, the digital transformation of the forestry industry, radionavigation, air traffic, health care and other matters. 12 documents considered at the 111th meeting will subsequently be submitted to the CIS Council of Heads of Government. The next meeting of the Economic Council is scheduled for Nov. 27, 2026, in Moscow.
