A Turkmen delegation is participating in the second regional conference on the “One Health” program in Central Asia, being held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on Sept. 14-15, a representative of the Business Turkmenistan online publication attending the event reported.
Representatives of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the World Bank, the Pandemic Fund and the international PREZODE initiative, are participating in the conference.
The opening session featured Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Ulan Matmatkanov, Kyrgyz Health Minister Damirbek Osmonov, World Bank Regional Director Nadji Benhassine, Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) Executive Director Batyr Mamedov, and World Bank Country Manager for Kyrgyzstan Hugh Riddell.
During the conference, national coordinators reported on the implementation of the “One Health” program in their respective countries. They included Allanazar Kajarov of Turkmenistan, Manar Smagul of Kazakhstan, Said Davlatzoda of Tajikistan and Rustamjon Ikramov of Uzbekistan.
The regional “One Health” program aims to jointly combat diseases transmitted from animals to humans and strengthen food security in the region. The program is being implemented with support from the World Bank through 2032, with total funding of $130 million.
The “One Health” program is being implemented in three stages, with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) coordinating work among the countries.
