Turkmen President Receives Honorary Doctorate From Sungkyunkwan University

Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov visited Sungkyunkwan University during his state visit to South Korea, where he was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Political Science. During a ceremony held in the university’s main conference hall, the Turkmen President was presented with a corresponding diploma, Turkmen state media reported Tuesday.

Sungkyunkwan University President Yoo Ji-beom said the honorary degree recognizes President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s contributions to Turkmenistan’s state development, transition to a digital economy, diversification of the national economy, pursuit of a neutral foreign policy and strengthening cooperation in Central Asia.

The Turkmen President thanked the university’s leadership and staff for awarding him the honorary degree, saying he regarded the academic distinction as a sign of respect for Turkmenistan and a symbol of friendly relations between the two countries.

In his remarks, Berdimuhamedov said Sungkyunkwan University cooperates with Turkmenistan’s International University for the Humanities and Development and Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University. He also stressed the importance of exchanges among students, teachers and researchers, developing joint educational programs and expanding cooperation in training specialists in artificial intelligence, engineering, energy, digital technologies and industrial management.

The President also viewed an exhibition showcasing Turkmenistan’s achievements in science, education and culture, as well as decorative and applied arts. The exhibition featured handmade Turkmen carpets and fine silver jewelry.
