Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung held talks in Seoul during Berdimuhamedov’s state visit to South Korea, Turkmen state media reported Tuesday.
An official welcoming ceremony for President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was held at Cheongwadae, the presidential office and residence. Following the ceremony, the two presidents held a one-on-one meeting, which was then expanded to include delegations from Turkmenistan and South Korea.
The sides discussed the current state and prospects of Turkmen-South Korean cooperation, with particular attention to further developing trade and economic ties.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan is interested in expanding its partnership with South Korea in areas including investment, trade, energy, industry, the chemical sector, rail transport, artificial intelligence, science and technology, water resources management and environmental protection.
The sides also paid particular attention to transport cooperation. Turkmenistan, together with its partners, is developing transport, transit and logistics infrastructure along the East-West and North-South corridors and supports the participation of South Korean companies in relevant projects.
The sides also discussed prospects for cooperation in science and education, as well as cultural and humanitarian ties.
During the talks, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited President Lee Jae Myung to visit Turkmenistan next year.
Following the talks, the presidents confirmed their interest in further strengthening Turkmen-South Korean cooperation in priority areas.
The same day, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Political Science by Sungkyunkwan University.
