Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov visited the National Memorial Complex of South Korea during his state visit to the country, paid tribute to its national heroes and laid flowers at the memorial, Turkmen state media reported Tuesday.
A guard of honor stood at the memorial. At the end of the tribute ceremony, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, in a gesture of respect for Korean traditions, placed wooden blocks into a special container holding smoldering coals.
The tradition reflects the shared practice of the Turkmen and Korean peoples of honoring the memory of heroes who gave their lives for the well-being of future generations.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the President left a note in the guestbook of honor at the National Memorial Complex of South Korea.
