The opening ceremony of Turkmenistan’s Cultural Days was held in Gwangju, South Korea, in conjunction with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s state visit to the Republic of Korea, Turkmen state media reported on Wednesday.
The opening ceremony took place at the National Asian Culture Center in Gwangju. The heads of the culture ministries and relevant institutions of the two countries, cultural and arts figures, and other guests attended the event.
As part of the event, the heads of the relevant ministries of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea held a meeting to discuss ways to strengthen cultural ties. The sides also highlighted the importance of preserving historical and cultural heritage and of having cultural and arts professionals participate in international festivals, exhibitions, conferences and concerts.
A memorandum of understanding on cooperation in cultural exchanges was signed between the State Cultural Center of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan and the National Asian Culture Center of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea. Participants said the document would help strengthen relations between the cultural centers of the two countries.
The opening ceremony also featured a concert by Turkmen cultural and arts performers and an exhibition of traditional applied and decorative art. The exhibition displayed museum artifacts, works by painters and sculptors, as well as national costumes.
The concert program featured musical, dance and choreographic-folklore performances, including songs performed in various languages. Participants expressed confidence that the Cultural Days would further strengthen cultural ties between the peoples of the two countries.
