Turkmenistan Calls for Expanded Central Asia-Korea Transport Cooperation

Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov called on business communities to actively participate in developing sustainable transport corridors and logistics links between Central Asia and South Korea during the first Central Asia-Korea Republic Business Summit, Turkmen state media reported.

Serdar Berdimuhammedov said Turkmenistan considers its transport and logistics sector a strategically important priority and attaches particular importance to its development. Turkmen President called on businesses to make active use of the opportunities and advantages arising from the geographic location of Central Asia and South Korea, situated at important crossroads of continental transport routes, and to participate in establishing sustainable transport corridors and logistics links. Turkmenistan was ready to provide the necessary support to advance cooperation in this area, Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed.

Serdar Berdimuhammedov also highlighted the role of the business community in consistently and long-term developing economic, trade, investment and business cooperation between the Central Asian states and South Korea. Turkmen President noted the business community has an important role to play and expressed confidence that entrepreneurs would promote new projects and forms of cooperation while providing governments with practical and methodological support in making important decisions.

The President reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to provide all necessary assistance to strengthen direct contacts and exchanges among business communities, as well as to encourage business activity, independence and innovation and said the economic and technological potential of Central Asia and South Korea creates broad opportunities for implementing promising projects.

Serdar Berdimuhammedov said South Korea has established itself as a reliable and promising partner for the Central Asian states, Turkmenistan highly values the contribution of South Korean companies and financial institutions to joint projects, noting that major long-term projects with the participation of Korean companies have been implemented in various sectors in Turkmenistan and continue to be carried out.

The President also highlighted the results of the first Central Asia-Korea Republic Summit and described the meeting as timely and practically important, saying it confirmed the shared goal of deepening multifaceted cooperation.

The results of the Business Summit will be reflected in a Joint Declaration, as well as agreements and memorandums aimed at developing cooperation. Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that implementing the agreements reached in practice would help expand business ties and increase mutual trade between the Central Asian states and South Korea.
