Turkmenistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Wepa Hajiyev, has been appointed the country’s Ambassador to Cuba, while Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Iran, Ylyas Gayypov, has been appointed Ambassador to Ghana, Turkmen state media reported.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed the corresponding decrees on Sept. 19, 2026.
Ylyas Gayypov was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Iran on Nov. 24, 2024, by Presidential decree.
Wepa Hajiyev was appointed Turkmenistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations on March 6, 2026. In that role, he represents Turkmenistan’s activities and international initiatives at the United Nations.
